AGR to run A1GP entry

In case you missed it, AGR will be running the USA entry in A1GP this year.

Charlie Kimball will race for the US squad this weekend at Zandvoort, it has been announced.

Kimball has yet to make his A1GP race debut, but competed in four rookie sessions last season. He has expert knowledge of the Zandvoort track, having taken a race victory in the World Series by Renault series in 2007.

It was announced early this week that IndyCar legend Andretti Green Racing will run the squad this season, and it has acted quickly in calling up the talented driver from California.

“It all happened pretty quick so it hasn’t completely sunk in yet,” Kimball said. “I was going a mile-a-minute just to get packed and ready to go, and my adrenaline was pumping about the same way it does when I’m in the race car.

“It wasn’t until I was on the airplane that I could really take a minute to think about it. This is a big deal to me. It’s nice to be given the opportunity to race this weekend. What the Andretti Green crew has accomplished this week to get our car prepared and race-ready is truly amazing.”

Michael Andretti said he was excited to see Kimball in the car for this weekend, and reckons the 23-year-old will be able to tell the team a thing or two about the circuit.

“He has some experience with the series and has had some success at the Zandvoort circuit,” Andretti said. “That experience is invaluable for us right now. We have heard good things about his abilities and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do.”

Andretti is currently flying in from the United States to announce the team’s driver plans for the rest of the season. Keep checking A1GP.com for all the latest news.

Is this good?  Bad?  or just ‘whatever’?

I’m going to say it’s good as I think AGR can bring a level of professionalism to the series for the US.  Afterall, AGR knows how to win some races and A1GP needs good teams to step up and get involved.
