Alonso Goes Shopping

An interesting article that has Fernando Alonso shopping for the best deal. Comments from RBR, Flavio and Jarno Trulli are insightful (which we like here at F1B but only occasionally) and it sheds light on what Alonso may be trying to accomplish. The most interesting part to me is the association with Ros Brawn. Very interesting indeed. I am not aware of this budding relationship with Ross that is suggested by his desire to want Ross on his team. Hmmmm.

The Toyota thing works but only if one believes Alonso can pull a Schum and if he’s really up to that challenge. Fred and Jarno were good buddies at Renault and they worked well together. We will find out soon what Alonso is going for, if he goes for Toyota or Honda or even Red Bull he would then be pulling a Jaques Villennueve and cashing in. On the other hand he could be looking for a stopgap team to hold him over till next year’s driver shuffle begins for which I think that Williams and Red Bull are the candidates. If Fernando is looking to stay long term at Renault then he will sign with them but I do see the possibility of a compromise there and him signing a 2-year as opposed to… Read more »

yes, the toyota path does seem like a long shot. they have the resources to buy the talent they need, but they are unproven. alonso doesn’t want that much of a challenge, he just has too much to prove next season. no need to pull a JV. plus, if he’s only willing to sign a one year deal with renault, he is probably keeping his eye on ferrari. but…all we can do is speculate and wait. my bet is that he ends up back at renault where he got the job done two years in a row. and i think… Read more »
