The love fest for Oscar Piastri is understandable. He’s done a great job, or as Mark Webber proclaimed, “He’s Number One.” And yes, that’s Mark’s job, likely borne of his own chips (many) still polished up in the media, sitting on his shoulders. Piastri is, clearly, a talent who will prevail. Good for the sport. Maybe not McLaren. — May I politely remind everyone that Oscar consistently does not outperform the qualifying times of Lando and this was his first quasi solo win made possible by the team’s snafu over Lando’s quali timing prep and that “racing incident” with Sainz… Read more »
And that’s why I think we said Lando is the real thing for sure. Lando has age and experience in the series and I think he’s only going to get better so I don’t see this as a slam dunk endorrsement of Oscar over Lando. I think Paul might choose Oscar and I might choose Lando but both are fantastic drivers. Tough spot for McLaren and sometimes there can’t be two number one’s at a team as Senna/Prost proved.
Clearly Oscar is awesome, his talent is starting to come out but he does have a long way to go (tyre management), mind you, and so does Lando (his starts need improving).
Also, don’t forget that Oscar didn’t drive for 18 months, so his ‘match fitness’ was lacking when he got back behind the wheel.
Happy Birthday Todd! Do like Paul would do and have a deliciously room temp beer ^_^
Ack! No thanks. :) But thanks for the birthday wishes. :)
Was anybody else impressed/surprised at how long Leclerc’s tyres lasted behind Oscar?
