I have been suspecting that perhaps BMW still had options on Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel but apparently that isn’t the case according to team boss Christian Horner. I could swear I had read that BMW were loaning him to Toro Rosso in 2007 and that they still had an option on him after his stint at STR. Apparently that may have expired as they did not have a seat for the young German driver. So does BMW still have an option?
“Definitely not,” the Briton said in an interview with Germany’s Sport Bild.
“They could have had him, they did have an option on Sebastian, the condition being that they give him a race cockpit for the 2008 season.
“In the middle of 2007 they let him go to the Red Bull family, to Toro Rosso, and they lost their rights to him,” Horner explained.
I imagine BMW are sad they let that one slip through their hands.
