If you’re were wondering what happened to Valtteri Bottas on the final lap of the Singapore Grand Prix, you’re not alone. It seems Bottas himself is trying to figure out what went wrong and caused his tires to literally give up on the final lap losing valuable positions in the process.
“We still need to investigate if it was the power steering or some bearing,” he said.
“The steering wheel was really sticky and there was no feedback from the car.
“If I was to turn on the straight it would stay there and not come back.
“I just couldn’t feel those little snaps on the exits, so I felt I couldn’t do a perfect job managing the tires because of the issue with the steering.”
The Williams F1 driver was running a handy 7th until his tires lost nearly all grip sending him backwards to finish 11th. On the NBC Sports broadcast, the team immediately said that he had rear tire that was cut down (going flat) and it really did seem like it had but according to Bottas, it was the steering that caused the tires to simply throw in the towel.
