Good for Renault. They were blowing the whistle on the top teams increasing their engine performance over the course of the year through FIA approved ‘reliability’ upgrades to their engines. The FIA has denied that any advantage was gained through these upgrades but Renault were following the letter of the law and got caught out by the engine freeze rule that all teams agreed to at the beginning of the year.
Fernando Win last weekend has prompted a discussion about Renault’s recent engine changes. Pat Symonds has quickly used the Ferrari, McLaren and BMW position that they merely upgraded parts for reliability issues. Odd, I don’t recall a lot for reliability issues for Renault that were engine related this year. ;) Way to go Pat, welcome the the ‘engine freeze’ program…nod, nod…wink, wink.
