Could Marussia be heading to Abu Dhabi?

Is there a chance Marussia could make it onto the grid for the final race of the 2014 Formula 1 season? According to Sky Sports F1, that may be the case. Marussia are currently 9th in the Constructor’s Championship and that means millions of dollars in prize money. Even in administration, it might behoove the financial backers of the team to cobble together a skeleton crew and at least start the race in order to secure the position for 2014.

Caterham have made it to Abu Dhabi and along with Sauber, they pose a threat to Marussia’s 9th place should the team fail to participate in the race weekend. So will they make it in time? Sky Sports F1 said:

“Marussia had not arrived as of Wednesday afternoon, although an encouraging sign came with the presence of staff employed by engine supplier Ferrari who were wearing the team’s uniform.”

Time will tell but it would be nice to see the team on the grid once again having missed the US and Brazilian grands prix. The story says that administrators are speaking with groups about an acquisition and are trying to raise funds to get the cars to the Yas Marina Circuit.

UPDATE: It seems that the plan has fallen through according to tweets from on-location F1 journalists such as Jennie Gow and others. Very sad.
