David Coulthard to NASCAR

Well, sort of.  Although it does seem to have some potential stickiness to it if you care to read into the statements and apply conspiracy theory mentalities.  DC will be visiting the Monster Mile while in Canada with the Red Bull team.

“I’m interested in all sorts of racing, but hardly ever get a chance to see anything other than Formula 1,” said the Scotsman. “So when Red Bull came up with the idea of shooting a promo film around their NASCAR operation on the week before the Canadian GP, it seemed like a great opportunity to go and see why this form of racing is so popular in the States.”

it would be another reason (in addition to JPM and AJ) for me to watch

The question is; would you really watch it more if DC was there? Do you watch it more now that JPM is there?

yes. i actually look forward to the road coarses and watch the occasional oval (granted, I watch the ovals to have something to talk about w/ my coworkers… of course now the in the box next to me is into “drifting”… I’m f’n doomed. I simply refuse!). If JV had been able to find a sponsor I’d probably watch every race. I’ve always followed driver over team (although Renault is my team no matter the driver … ‘cept when they had Schumi… I hate that Schumi guy) I was wearing my DC/KR McLaren cap today as a matter of fact.… Read more »

If you don’t like NASCAR or you don’t like ovals you are not going to watchit unless your absolute favorite driver goes over; otherwise it is too much commitment to make 500 mile races are long and at times boring as hell. I like NASCAR’s three series and GP2 and F1, and I hope Coulthard doesn’t go over because he will suck like Villeneuve did.

JV didn’t suck… his car did. If he had a mid-pack car i believe he’d be close to JPM… easily Rookie of the Year (you gotta love that). I don’t blame him for refusing to buy the team which is what they were trying to force him to do. It’s not like he’s racing for a paycheck. Let him have fun and win in LMS.

On the road coarses it would’ve been fun to have him in the mix.

True. JV will be at Le Mans and that’s great. He did terrific last year.

You neglected to include the RBR press release which was my favorite part of the story:

Please note that David is visiting this event solely to shoot a film for Red Bull and we would appreciate it if you did not start a load of silly rumours about him switching from F1 to NASCAR in 2009. Yee Ha!

And way to send him to the five hour bore-fest that is Dover. Sheesh, at least send him to an interesting NASCAR race. ;)

That’s a first – “interesting” and “NASCAR” in the same sentence. Along the same lines as “If a tree falls in the forest…” comes “If (another) F1 driver goes to NAStyCAR to jump-start a fading career, will anyone care?” JiPeM, JV and DC can’t and won’t generate any interest from enough F1 fans worldwide to make any difference. Why? NAStyCAR is bash-your-head-into-cinderblocks boring. Very few people outside the States watch “mainstream” American racing because it’s mostly ovals – the most tedious style of “racing” on the planet. DC – if you want to be anonymous, NAStyCAR is the place for… Read more »

Any F1 drivers in NASCAR that ever have results? They’re middle of the pack kind of racers…

David once again like the rest would NOT have a chance in Nascar… Lots of abreviations here… so let me give you one.. DC would be DFL (dead f… last)

I’m thinking you have to use JPM as a measuring stick. He’s done fair in NASCAR and JV couldn’t get a team together. DC would be better off going somewhere else.

Hey, I bet Scott Speed would LOVE to have DC as a teammate in the Truck series and DC wouldn’t even have to change sponsors! Talk about a dream team!

(I couldn’t type that with a straight face)

The Yee Ha!’s the best bit. DC would fit in juuuuust fine over at NASCAR, hell I might even sit through it (my record of ovals were 10 laps).
