An Interesting column from DC puts his perspective on the McLaren Quali-gate. Oddly, I have to agree with him on several points. But it is not secret I was not a fan of penalizing McLaren for the incident.

I found DC’s remarks pretty insightful. He also made it obvious that the only solution to the ongoing team order debate and weighting the driver vs the teams interests is basically to have one car teams, where there is one team for one driver only. And that eliminates also the ability for the #2 driver to block competitors of his team’s #1 driver. But having one car teams is commercially not viable with the level of investment needed to develop a car. JYS you’re right, I was just thinking after I posted that we’ll have customer cars next year. Unless the FIA will make one car teams mandatory and forbids ‘strategic alliances’ between teams, the top teams will more likely become 4 car teams in the future. We’ll see, but I think one car teams would bring a whole new game to the sport.
