Force India back-up driver Paul di Resta captured the DTM title today by finishing second at the race in Shanghai. Another familiar Formula 1 name, Gary Paffett, won the race to give Mercedes a couple of wins.
David Coulthard had his best DTM finish of his first year in the series, coming in eighth.
So now di Resta, who had time in Force India cars this past season, can tout a title as he lobbies for an F1 drive. The question is whether it will be meaningful to F1 team bosses, including his own — Nico Hulkenberg is lurking around there with a title to his name, too.
Does the DTM title make you think di Resta is more than just media hype? Does a sportscar series victory seem relevant to you in the world of F1? Would you give di Resta a seat? And would you do so instead of Hulkenberg?
