I would suggest George is struggling for the same reason Albon lost his Red Bull seat, Rosberg is retired and dozens of other drivers are broken – one of Lewis’ strengths as a driver, for better or worse (worse) is that he will sacrifice a race or two to destroy the confidence of any driver who threatens to supplant him. Lewis drove George off the track in a dangerous, bush league move in Japan, and just smashed right into him in Qatar.
