The Grand Prix Drivers Association has met Thursday and issued a strong warning to Formula One. Sharing concerns for the British Grand Prix in which four tires exploded, the drivers have banded together to offer a statement:
“However, the drivers have decided that, if similar problems should manifest themselves during the German GP, we shall immediately withdraw from the event, as this avoidable problem with the tyres endangers again the lives of drivers, marshals and fans.”
Pirelli are confident that the tires tested in Canada, with a Kevlar belt, will work fine for the German Grand Prix this weekend. If it doesn’t, Formula One could be heading for even more drama this weekend. It would be interesting to see which drivers would actually boycott the race and which drivers wouldn’t.
