Max Mosley unleashed a maelstrom of allegations, justifications and innuendos in a recent letter to the FIA member club presidents last week.He is now facing a similar letter to be delivered by the CVC and Bernie Ecclestone addressing the points in Mosley’s letter. The Times’ Gorman ran the story and quotes Mr. E as saying:
“I sincerely hope that it isn’t a declaration of war because, if that’s what the message should be, then we’ll have to defend ourselves,†Ecclestone said. “That is what anyone would do. I don’t believe that’s what Max wanted the letter to say. I don’t want to have a war with Max. I hope he doesn’t want one with me.â€
In short, Max has fired the first public shot and now Mr. Ecclestone and the CVC are going to parry. Let the war begin but in the end game; I still have my money on Mr. E and the CVC machine. This was never about the power struggle in F1; it was about Max’s position in the FIA. Max has made it personal, public and hostile. He has awaken the dragon.
