[dropcap]O[/dropcap]r so said Aristotle.  I would venture to guess he wouldn’t have gone to all the trouble to change his website as he really didn’t need a site to convey a message.  The old axiom is that everyone is out to change the world and rarely does people think to change themselves.  Obviously that isn’t F1B, we change as fast as a Mercedes GP pit crew changes Nico’s tires.

While we’ve changed the site for a few reasons that are mostly internal, we also understand that the community of F1B is the most important thing.  If this new layout is untenable for our readers, then yes I can change it back to the old layout but we might give this a chance as it is a hybrid between the last layout and the one before it.  I would have to have had more columns but that gets into odd re-sizing of the browser and that has caused some difficulties for different browsers and resolutions readers were using.  The idea here is to get F1B on your phone, computer an tablet.  We hope we’ve achieved that to your satisfaction.

As always, feel free to send us your feedback.  Like all sites, we are limited on the crazy things we can do but hopefully this will increase readership, engagement, time -on-site and other metrics that let us know you are a vibrant, wonderful community of people who make F1B what it truly is…the Journal of F1 Opinion.

The new layout is cool. What I would definitely live is an Android App :)

I mean love :). Live is not incorrect either considering that I consume most of my info through my phone.

I’m not a big fan of the tone of grey. It makes the site content seem like it’s floating with uncertainty, doesn’t know where it should be. On a basic level, I do like the colour scheme, but the page layout seems to fall apart. Maybe that’s more due to the omnipresent social media bar and ads which stick out like sore thumbs on this design. The text for the story titles on the front page appears off in Firefox, like it has a slight grey edge. But it seems to look normal in Chrome. Still, I preferred the bold… Read more »

For me the new layout does the trick! Much nicer to surf around and read all the articles. In the old one many of the posts were hidden by the Twitter feed and other things. I also love the share-bar to the left. Great job!

I think the new layout loads faster on my phone, definitely improvements.

Please make comments text colors darker because they are hard to read being light grey. I think texts should be one size bigger, but I guess I can set that with my browser.

Love the new layout but it’s not rendering properly in FF for me. In chrome it looks awesome. There are still some minor annoyances in design though that have been here for some time.

Tabbing between the entry fields to “leave a response” is not contiguous. You should tab from NAME to EMAIL to WEBSITE to COMMENTS. Instead it alternates to “need an account”.

One other observation is that all the fields in the forum appear TWICE.

That said the style of the updated site looks great.

A big THUMBS UP from me for the new website look. I’m using Firefox and it seems to be loading fine, with no issues so far.

Well done to all at F1B!

Everything looks great, the size of the text is good (please if you can dont make it any smaller) the spacing between lines of text is just right.

Real nice job everybody

This is a significant improvement over the previous iteration, well done. Page load seems improved as well?
My one beef (with any version of f1b thus far) is the inordinately large f1b logo. It should be scaled down.

Well done, it looks very slick and put together. I think with all the new little bits you had added since the last update, things had gotten cluttered on the main page, with stories not sticking to the boundaries of sidebars etc. But this is easy to digest and all the new stuff like the speed videos and the scrolling share bar are excellent.

New layout is much better. The only problem I had was explaining the “Baltic Dating Service” add bar to my 11 yr old daughter. I turned it into a learning experience and now we both know how many kilos a reasonably hot Ukranian woman should weigh.

I have to say that I did like this new F1B’s face. A fresh image indeed. Really liked it, well done guys :)

The site is just basically a Microsoft Metro design. I like it, but I thought Todd was an Apple Fanboy. LOL

I just knew Todd swung both ways. It’s the New Romantic in him.

Yes! The formerly enormous masthead is now a useful size, and the articles can now be opened properly in tabs.

Good enough for me—thanks!

In general I a fan of the new layout. I have a couple of thoughts, though. 1) Maybe have the social bar optional or “slide-out” (see SpringSource for an example: http://goo.gl/uxgL1)

2) The funky formatting on the comment form, as has been previously mentioned (background issues) could be done away with (or implemented better)

3) I miss the inline form for replying to comment. Being brought all the way to the bottom of the page when responding to a comment is strange, and forces me to scroll up to quote or reference something in the original post.

NC, stellar update. One qualm, please darken or change the comment and quote text to black. There just is not enough contrast between the background and text. Many thanks and again, job well done.

PS – something I wanted to suggest to F1B for quite some time, perhaps adding a comment rate feature akin to that of Motomatters.com. It has been a hit over there and as you know, F1B and MM share quite a few readers!
