#F1Chat Preview – looking ahead to the British Grand Prix

With the British Grand Prix just days away, we have a lot to look forward to. We also have a lot to discuss on #F1Chat this week following Santander’s media event last Thursday to launch their idea of what a possible London Grand Prix would look like. So here’s what’s coming up on this week’s #F1Chat…

As always in Formula One, teams are considering ways of cutting costs, and one of the proposals is to ban tyre warmers. As we all know, tyre warmers keep the tyres at the optimum temperature while the car is in the garage or on the grid, or before tyres are changed during a stop. One of the reasons for this is due to safety as colder tyres are more likely to cause accidents as the driver struggles to get the tyres up to temperature. With teams split on the idea, and drivers such as Schumacher against it, what are your thoughts on the ban? Pirelli’s Paul Hembery has said the tyre manufacturer would need time to produce tyres that work without pre-heating and it would be something that would have to be introduced over a two year period, as banning the tyre warmers ahead of 2013 is not enough time to produce and test new tyres. If tyre warmers were phased out over a two year period where they were no longer used on wet tyres in the first year and banned completely in the second, as Paul Hembery has suggested, do you think it would work? Do you believe banning tyre warmers would be the right move in a bid to cut costs, or do you think it would be too dangerous? What do you think is the best approach to cut costs?

With rumours that Bernie would be happy to put money into a race in London, and following Santander’s launch of what they believe a London Grand Prix could look like, what are your thoughts on a race in the capital? Did you see the video? What did you think? The proposed start/finish straight is The Mall, but this plan is surely flawed – what do you think of this? Would the Olympic Park be a feasible idea? Could you see it happening?

Looking ahead to the British Grand Prix – who do you think will be leading the way this weekend? Predictions for pole and the win? The weather looks set to be unsettled and rain is likely – who do you see doing well if the weather is bad? Are you going to the race? What are you looking forward to most about the weekend?

Join us tomorrow at the usual time of 4pm Eastern US, 9pm UK, using the #F1Chat hashtag to answer the questions. Unfortunately, there won’t be a post-race #F1Chat after this weekend’s race as I will be at the circuit myself, however if you are going to be there, do let me know as I would love to meet you all!
