Sebastian Vettel has just taken his eighth consecutive win, McLaren have signed Kevin Magnussen for 2014 and Heikki Kovalainen has made a return to Formula One. It’s been a busy week, and we also have the final race of the season to look forward to. So here’s what’s coming up on tomorrow’s #F1Chat…
Let’s begin with Esteban Gutierrez and Max Chilton’s penalties for impeding during qualifying on Saturday. Both impeded Pastor Maldonado. Gutierrez received a 10-place grid-drop and Chilton, who qualified 22nd anyway, received a drive-through to be served in the first five laps of the race. What did you make of these penalties, in particular Chilton’s? Were they fair? Do you think issuing a drive-through is a sufficient penalty for a driver already starting at the back of the grid?
After being knocked out in Q1, Maldonado blamed the Williams team for hampering him. Williams were quick to rubbish the claims. What are your thoughts on this?
Meanwhile, Valterri Bottas qualified in the top ten and finished eighth, scoring his first points in Formula One. What were your thoughts on his weekend? He felt he underperformed in qualifying.
The battle over second in the constructors’ standings is shaping up nicely, with Mercedes extending their lead over Ferrari with one race to go after Lewis Hamilton finished ahead of Fernando Alonso. What did you make of their races, and those of Nico Rosberg and Felipe Massa, who both struggled in qualifying and the race?
What did you think of the race? Thoughts on the first lap incident between Adrian Sutil and Maldonado that saw the end of Sutil’s race? Romain Grosjean got a good start, passing Mark Webber for second, where he eventually finished – thoughts on his race? What about his new teammate, Heikki Kovalainen – what did you think of his first race back in F1 as Kimi Raikkonen’s replacement? Did Lotus pick the right driver?
Who was your driver of the day? Overtake of the race?
In other news this week, Sergio Perez is out of McLaren – what did you make of this announcement and where do you see him in 2014? Thoughts on his race weekend? What about Kevin Magnussen – right man to replace Perez?
Finally, looking ahead to the final race of the season. What are your predictions for pole? Who do you think will win? Can Vettel take a ninth consecutive win and equal Michael Schumacher’s record of 13 race wins in one season?
