Firestone will sponsor St. Petersburg Grand Prix

Longtime IndyCar tire manufacturer Firestone will replace Honda as sponsor of the season opener at St. Petersburg, Florida in a multiyear deal.

This makes the second race that Firestone will sponsor this season with, the first being the Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway in June.

According to the St. Petersburg Tribune, the deal took promoter Green Savoree Promotions about a month to put together.

“Firestone has been a first-rate sponsor of our event for the past nine years, and we can only express gratitude for having a partner who understands the value of our event.”

“It speaks volumes about Firestone and what we have built with all of our partners in our wonderful community.”

Lisa Boggs, director of Bridgestone Amersicas Motorsports (parent company of Firestone), was also very optimistic about the partnership.

“Motorsports is an integral part of the Firestone brand marketing efforts and the entitlement sponsorship of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg aligns perfectly with our plans.”

“Our commitment to the race is a reflection of our longstanding relationship with Green Savoree and the terrific St. Petersburg community and fans. We are proud to have the Firestone name on this outstanding event.”

The Streets of St. Petersburg will play host to the Grand Prix for the 10th time in 2014 on March 28-30. Tickets go on sale Dec. 1.
