On the subject of new spec Renault engines, if they can only have two ready for Monaco, I’d think the logical thing to do would be to use both in the works Renault team. If they need to justify that, they can always use the Mercedes explanation that they don’t want to use their customers as guinea pigs for an engine that isn’t yet proven :-)

Negative Camber

I think it must signal the importance of the RBR relationship still, regardless of what is said in the press. You would think they would keep both for the team but perhaps it is a contractual obligation in the contract that states RBR get a new upgraded engine as soon as they are available etc.

Andreas

You’re probably right. I just thought it was a funny idea to split the available engines that way, when the works team would really need that boost.

1. Imagine what >Iahem< "No-VIT-ski".
11. Good lord, it's the Kovaleinin version of "Sprockets".
12. Hello, Ron? I'm waiting for the monkeys to fly out of your butt. After that, then you'll probably win a title.
13. So, Ron Dennis has no life?
14. Rosberg, Vettel, Hamilton, and First Out will be Haryanto.

I’m here to tell you that Heikki has been racing in Japan. I guess you don’t get the Finnish yellow papers who, for reasons I can’t fathom, wont shut up about Heikki racing in Japan

Also sitting on a dock in the nude is a cultural thing. When you have approximately 17 minutes of summer per year you want to make the most of it.

Negative Camber

Makes complete sense now. :)

It’s your American puritanical roots that can’t cope with nudity. :)

Loved the bravado award going to Ron for predicting McLaren will be the next champs post Mercedes. Then I listened to the full 5 Live Radio interview with Ron. That changed my mind, there was a total lack of ‘Ron speak’, instead he was honest and sincere. Once in context that prediction no longer sounded like empty bravado, instead it sounded like an honest and sincere prediction by someone with total belief in his people and his company. Possibly misguided, but not bravado.

Shocks&Awe

I completely agree. Plus, optimism is essential to reaching one’s goals. The argument that McLaren has very few points relative to others is ineffectual. He’s not talking about this year, he’s talking about next year and the year after. The Honda is improving, and the chassis is indeed good. I have no doubt that they can beat Ferrari to the punch, because Ferrari excel at shooting themselves in the foot. RBR is the real challenge. If they don’t get the chassis right, they may very well fall to McLaren.

Could anyone advise/inform me when the commentator David Hobbs raced at Monaco for what team and when……Thank you…

Tom Firth

I could be wrong but I don’t think David Hobbs raced at Monaco, at least not in F1 but he did race in many series so It’s possible he did in another series.

Zeus

I have looked on various sites researching his F1 career and find very little…he only raced in 6 or 7 actual F1 races…and only twice for Maclaren. …it was just that the other commentator ‘Leigh Diffey kept going on about David Hobbs racing there…their memory is some what embellished over time……but thanks…

MIE

Hobbs drove for Merlyn in Formula Juniour from 1964-66. It is highly likely that he raced at Monaco in the Formula Junior support race. Six Merlyns were entered into the 1965 event, three Merlyn drivers made the final. Unfortunately there are no entry lists on line.

Zeus

Ok…thanks for that…that’s interesting….

Tom Firth

Ok, David Hobbs raced at Monaco in Formula Junior in 1963 in the heats, in a Lola Mk 5A – Ford/Cosworth for Midland Racing Partnership, interestingly his teammate was a certain Richard Attwood.

Zeus

Wow…thanks for that….very much appreciated…. Leigh Diffey certainly puts a more glamorous spin on it…
