A suggestion, if I might be so bold. With Red Bull’s director letting us know his power as a leader allows him to explode Mercedes engines with the sheer intensity of his team’s excellence, I’m reminded of something. Specifically that the professional veneer of F1 drivers and staff is just that, and beneath it lies, in most instances, the arrogant and self absorbed walking experiment in sports psychology it takes to reach such a high level. I generally find that when presented with a driver or team boss comment that strikes a chord or hits me wrong, I often time channel my inner Niki Lauda and simply say, “Total Bull***t!” I find that works quite well for just about every situation good or bad.

VSC is saving more races than it’s disrupting. If a safety car was deployed in each VSC instance, the entire field would bunch up and the impact would mostly be greater the farther you go up the field, assuming they don’t get around before the pits are closed. The times it would disrupt anything is when cars are in different speed sections and rendering that portion of the track void (see GP2 Monaco for an extreme example). At La Source Verstappen drove over the kerb to avoid contact with Raikkonen (who was being squeezed by Vettel). If Vettel had taken that option on Sunday he may have completed the first lap.

True, but that is assuming that option (of making a sharper turn on to the inside kerb) was available to him. The steering angle to do it was probably available, but maybe not the grip. But it is an interesting observation nonetheless. Outside of that, I agree with Paul with regards to Max. Just shut up and drive… :-)

The VSC _ I the TV presenters understood it (watch Hobb’s face! Not.), perhaps they could tell us what the heck is happening. On the safety side, it does seem safer. On the viewing side, I have NO idea what’s happening.

Excellent job NC and Paul. Interesting you bring up vsc, for some reason it came to mind especially in this race. I think it comes down to whether you prefer fairness or the intrigue of random changes to the established order. Erasing a gap IS unfair, but when it throws carefully laid plans into the bin, that’s interesting. Some F1 races need a touch of interesting, and this is a joker in the deck. Which one is right probably comes down to whether your favorite driver is cruising or chasing when the incident occurs. Loading...

Nicely said Zachary, VSC does eliminate the random factor that we see with ASC, and that is fairer. More import, for me, is the way it takes away the incentive for drivers to ‘keep their foot in’ to close the gap on other cars. This reduces the liklihood of another incident like Bianchi’s, and the hazard to track workers. So for me a great use of technology. It looks like there are a number of teams who’s performance is going backwards this season – Williams, Ferrari, Sauber, Toro Rosso, Haas, to name 5. I guess its more like, these teams haven’t improved as much as their rivals rather than actually losing performance. We hear that Ferrari’s engineering team are in turmoil, Toro Rosso have a 2015 p.u and thats now off the pace, Sauber are broke, so whats the problem with Haas (after such a bright start) and Williams (after fours seasons of improvement). Did they all hire guys from ‘Nicos team’?
