Welcome to the 2018 TPF Fantasy IndyCar League. The objective is to take a team of drivers and score enough points to win.

The process is simple. You will start with a budget of $40 million. You will select from a list of drivers. Each one will have a listed price. You will continue to select drivers until you reach your budget limit or you have picked 6 drivers, whichever comes first.

You may change your drivers at any time prior to the first practice session of a race. After that, the selections are frozen. Your drivers will then earn points based on how well they do in a race.

The value of your drivers will go up or down based on their performance in a race. Your budget will increase or decrease along with the value of your drivers. However, your reserve (the money you have left over after spending your cash) will only change as you change drivers.

The scoring is a bit of a hybrid since IndyCar races on both ovals and road courses plus a special system of scores for the Indy 500. Your drivers score points for your team based on their performance in each race. Highest total at the end of the season wins.

Now, with that out of the way, here’s how the scoring system works:

    Qualifying points:

    1st: 50 points
    2nd: 35
    3rd: 30
    4th: 25
    5th: 20
    6th: 15
    7th -11th: 10 points
    12th – 16th: 5 points
    17th onward: -5 points

    Race Finish Points:

    1st: 200 points
    2nd: 100
    3rd: 90
    4th: 80
    5th: 70
    6th: 60
    7th: 50
    8th: 40
    9th: 30
    10th: 20
    11th: 18
    12th: 16
    13th: 14
    14th: 12
    15th: 10
    16th: 8
    17th: 6
    18th: 4
    19th: 2
    20th onward: 0

Your driver must finish the race to earn points. Finishing the race is defined as still running in the race, regardless of how many laps the driver was behind when the race ended.

    Special “Indy 500” scoring system:

    Qualifying Points:

    1st: 100 points
    2nd: 75
    3rd: 50
    4th: 45
    5th: 40
    6th: 35
    7th: 30
    8th: 25
    9th: 20
    10th – 14th: 15 points each
    15th – 19th: 10 ponts each
    20th – 24th: 5 points each
    25th – 29th: -5 points each
    30th – 33rd: -10 points each
Attempted but failed to qualify: -15 points each

    Race Finish Points:

    1st: 300 points
    2nd: 200
    3rd: 150
    4th: 100
    5th: 90
    6th: 80
    7th: 70
    8th: 60
    9th: 50
    10th: 45
    11th: 40
    12th: 35
    13th: 30
    14th: 25
    15th: 20
    16th: 18
    17th: 16
    18th: 14
    19th: 12
    20th: 10
    21st: 8
    22nd: 6
    23rd: 5
    24th: 4
    25th: 3
    26th: 2
    27th: 1
    28th onward: 0

    Bonuses (applies to all races):

    Lap points:

    1. On a road course, this will be half the race distance in laps, rounded up.
    2. On an oval or similar course, this will be the race distance in laps multiplied by 7/8ths, divided by 8, up to a maximum 7/8ths of the distance. After that, 1 point for each lap.

Fastest lap: The driver with the fastest lap of the race will receive 25 bonus points.
Most laps led: The driver who led the most laps in the race will receive 5 bonus points.
Progress points: Each driver will receive 5 points for each position gained based on his qualifying position. If they finish the race behind their qualifying position, there will be no penalty, but there will be no bonus points, either.

Any penalty that applies between races or after the end of the last race of the season will not be accounted for.

So, it’s early days yet. The first practice of the first race is a long way off, and three drives have yet to be confirmed. I’ll post the driver price list when those have been confirmed. In the meantime, relax and read the news.

      Slight problem with your lineup:

      1. I did say the max number of drivers was 6. You have 7.

      2. I did say the budget limit was $40 million. You are well over that.

Try again. You are not registered yet since you went over the limits.

    Question….

Why is Indy qualifying worth double the regular points, unlike the series (which relegated qualifying points to the Fast 9 only)?
    Seems off, IMHO.

This is probably the only spot where IndyCar is closer to NASCAR in terms of participation. The bigger field and longer distance meant that the points had to be accommodated to account for 33 cars going 500 miles on a 2 1/2 mile oval, which is a “superspeedway” by NASCAR terms.

Just to clarify: The value of your team after St. Petersburg, assuming that you would want to keep all your drivers, was $39.18 with $0.50 left over. If you want to trade in all your drivers, the overall value would be $39.68. After getting these other drivers, the total value you would end up spending is $44.36, which is way over your budget Remember that your budget goes up and down based on the performance of your drivers. Yours went down based on the results from the previous race.

So, what do you want to do with your previous drivers (Dixon, Kanaan, Andretti and/or Carpenter?)

EDIT: Well, assuming that you want to get rid of all of the above for your new drivers, your reserve should increase to $0.60.

EDIT 2: This is to infer that you can keep your drivers as long as you like, or trade some of them away, or trade them all away as you are doing now. You have that option after each race. The deadline to make this decision is usually the first practice for the next race

Actually, to explain it better, if you want to change drivers, the total value of your drivers before the change plus your reserve is your total budget. That’s your limit right there.

Fortunately for you, you’re well within your budget. The total value of your team is, as you said, $40.49. However, your new reserve amount is $1.24 due to the changes you’ve made.
