This famous F1 driver also raced the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Mille Miglia, Tasman and 24 Hours of Daytona. He was retained by a famous marque as a sports car driver but was in and out of F1 as fortune would have it. He had a mentor who bankrolled many of his efforts in motor racing and also managed a garage owned by his wife’s parents.
He tragically died in a race with some speculation over the efficiency of the safety crew. Approximately 100,000 attended his funeral.
