The world of entertainment is bring us the good and bad today.
Shall we start with the good?
Gran Turismo 5 is set to be released in less than two weeks, on November 24th, thus ruining countless Thanksgiving holidays in America. But who cares? With more than 1,000 cars and 70-odd tracks, we’ll put up with the fall-out from skipping dinner at the in-laws.
Here’s more on the long-awaited, long-delayed news:
After several delays, Sony’s “Gran Turismo 5” is set to be released on November 24, the company announced Friday.
The long-awaited game, available for the PlayStation 3, will hit stores the Wednesday before Thanksgiving in North America. Pre-orders are being accepted now via Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Target, and Walmart for the $59.99 standard edition. Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart are also selling a $99.99 collector’s edition, which includes a 1:43 scale collectible diecast car, a 300-page guide to cars and racing techniques, a GT-branded key chain, a voucher for five DLC cars, and a numbered certificate of authenticity.
“Gran Turismo 5 is an ambitious project, with challenges and complexities which have made it our version of the Apollo Space Program” Kazunori Yamauchi, president of game studio Polyphony Digital, said in a statement. “When we created the original Gran Turismo back in 1997, we wanted to set a completely new precedent for the racing genre. With the technological leap onto PlayStation 3, our objective with Gran Turismo 5 was to create another great revolution which would not only satisfy our own high expectations, but would meet or even exceed the anticipation of the fans.”
That’s the good news. The bad news is that Peter Douglas, the son of Kirk Douglas you’ve never heard of, is planning to remake a slew of classic movies such as “Seven Days in May,” “Seconds” and… yes, “Grand Prix.”
That news via Deadline Hollywood. And I call is bad because I see no way that Hollywood will be able to recapture the moment that makes “Grand Prix” all that it is. I don’t think I need days to list of the reasons thunder why.
But Gran Turismo 5! There, that should make you feel better.
