Hamilton claims pole for 1st Russian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton has claimed pole position for Sunday’s inaugural Russian Grand Prix. Hamilton bested his teammate, Nico Rosberg, by two tenths of a second and says it’s a good place to start from. The Mercedes pair make it another front row lockout but they were legitimately challenged for pole by the flying Fin, Valtteri Bottas who qualified third.

The star of the session may have been local hero, Daniil Kvyat, who placed his Toro Rosso in 5th for the qualifying session. The young Russian beat both Ferrari drivers as well as the Red Bull duo of Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo.
