A memorial service to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Britain’s first world champion, Mike Hawthorn, is to take place in his home town of Farnham in late January.
Hawthorn retired from motor racing shortly after clinching the world title in 1958, but was killed in a road accident near Guildford on January 22, 1959.
To mark the 50th anniversary of his death, a service is to take place at St. Andrews Church in Farnham on January 25th. Following the service, which starts at 1.30pm, there will be a parade of cars through Farnham town centre.
