There is life as a test driver.
Nick Heidfeld, who this year is Mercedes’ back-up driver, has been named the new president of the Grand Prix Drivers Association, replacing Pedro de la Rosa who stepped down after two years because… because he found a drive with BMW Sauber.
Poor Nick.
Here’s the news, at an unlikely place I admit, which also announces that Sebastian Vettel and Felipe Massa are the new deputy chiefs.
The big news seems to be that Michael Schumacher has decided not to re-join the group, saying others should now be running the association.
In my mind, that would seem to limit the group’s influence a bit, no? On the plus side, three of the major teams are represented by drivers in leadership positions, so that strikes me as a healthy balance.
