Red Bull Racing’s Christian Horner has been officially removed as director of several entities within the racing team. Horner was released from duties after the British Grand Prix but his official role has now been terminated.
Horner was a director over Red Bull Racing, Red Bull Technology, and Red Bull Powertrains at the time of his operational dismissal. Those entities have now officially released him of his director authority which would leave folks assuming a severance package and complete termination from all red Bull interests has been achieved. Autosport has the story:
“But on Thursday new filings at Companies House showed Horner has now officially been terminated as director of those four companies over the past 48 hours, suggesting the company has agreed severance details with the 51-year-old.
At the time of Horner’s ousting in July, Red Bull’s long-time global head of HR Stefan Salzer was added to the four entities as a director for administrative reasons.”
No doubt the severance was a very expensive cash outlay which may or may not play into what Horner does next.
Many wonder if Alpine team boss role might be in the cards or possibly Cadillac. For that point, I’d argue Aston Martin. If I was Lawrence Stroll, I’d go get Christian, with a piece of ownership like he gave Adrian Newey, and I’d get George Russell to pair up with Fernando Alonso. But that’s just me and I doubt Newey would be too jazzed about that so it probably wouldn’t happen.
The severance is most likely in the millions so he might not do anything for a while. Some argue what he really wanted was some ownership in the team at Red Bull, like Toto Wolff has at Mercedes, and perhaps he’ll look for that kind of opportunity which I doubt Cadillac would offer but you never know about Alpine.
Here’s another thought, would Gene Haas entertain that relationship with a proven winner? You could argue that Red Bull had lots of cash to throw at their new team when they purchased Jaguar’s F1 effort so Christian has always had plenty of funds and a small team like Haas might be another story.
I do think Renault might be wise to explore the situation as they sought cash and now have investors in the team. It might be worth seeing if Horner could turn the team around and if not, perhaps bow out leaving investors and Horner to possibly buy Renault out as a privateer with a Mercedes engine deal. Horner would love to take Toto on with Toto’s engine. Time will tell.
