The silly season is really ramping up and if you have come to grips with the legitimacy of Eddie Jordan’s comment about Lewis Hamilton moving to Mercedes, then maybe it is time to consider Ferrari once again. Felipe Massa says he’s confident he can stay with the team telling reporters:
“I am frustrated with my qualifying, not with my races, and I’m sure improving a bit my qualifying I can be very strong in the race and change completely the results.
“As I said, I didn’t sign anything for next year yet but I think we have the possibilities to sign [with Ferrari] and let’s wait and see.
“I don’t know when but we just need to concentrate on the result of the race. I think that’s the main important thing for my future as well.”
That may or may not be the case but every driver has to think positive about his career and options. Another rumor making the Ferrari connection is that Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg could be a potential replacement for Massa. While I think this might be a decent choice, I tend to weigh the other rumors next to it and see if it makes sense.
Ferrari are rumored to be looking for a driver on a one-year deal as they have eyes on Sebastian Vettel for 2014. IF that is true, then Hulkenberg may be an option. Webber, it is said, was looking for a longer deal than one year and thus he re-signed with Red Bull. It’s speculation at best but would Hulkenberg be a good addition? If so, can you think of a reason Ferrari’s interest in their young driver program star Sergio Perez would not be? Could that be a case of looking at Perez in the long-term and with Vettel possibly in play and Fernando already there, Perez would not fit?
Hulkenberg told reporters:
“Yes, it is good and positive press if you are linked to a team like that, but now we have to race again,”
