James Davison becomes the newest driver in the Dale Coyne Racing family and in the IndyCar circle, taking over the driving duties of the #18 car for next weekend’s Honda 200 at Mid-Ohio.
“It’s an incredible feeling to finally realize my dream of becoming an IndyCar driver after four years on the sidelines,” said Davison. “I’ve had to work overtime for this opportunity and can’t thank Dale Coyne and all my supporters enough for their continued faith in me.
“There will no doubt be a lot to learn however this is the challenge of racing some of the best drivers and teams in the world in IndyCar,” added the 26-year-old Aussie, whose cousins Will and Alex currently race in their homeland Australia in V8 Supercars. “I’ll be pushing to achieve the best possible result in my rookie race.”
Davison has 30 Firestone Indy Lights Starts from 2008-09 and 2 wins, both at Mid-Ohio. He finished 2nd in points in 2009. Since then he has raced sparingly in the Rolex Sports Car Series.
The #18 car has had a multitude of drivers this year including Ana Beatriz, Pippa Mann and Mike Conway (who won at Detroit in June). Also in the mix for a ride at Dale Coyne Racing is Stefan Wilson, brother of Justin Wilson. Stefan was rumored for a ride with Coyne earlier in the year, but was unable to take the ride due to a sponsorship fallout.
