Jorge Cleared to Race

Let the debate continue as to the wisdom of racing injured; Jorge Lorenzo has been cleared to race at the upcoming Le Mans event.  should he?  Shouldn’t he?

“Not enough time has passed yet for the injuries to fully heal, but Jorge’s pain threshold will allow him to compete without too much risk this weekend,” said Doctor Mir.

I stand by my position but if he can continue to drive, what’s stopping him. Everyone else just races through the injury and then has surgery in the off season, why should Maverick be any different.

As a motorcycle racer, you’re always hurt. When asked about what it takes to race motorcycles at the top level, Shakey Byrne – a former MotoGP rider and currently tearing up the British Superbike series – said “you have to expect to break at least one major bone every year”. And the current sick bay consists of Lorenzo (who is most badly hurt), John Hopkins (injured leg), Alex de Angelis (various bruises), Dani Pedrosa (still recovering from a broken bone in his hand, though it’s mostly healed). Given the nature of the sport and proclivity of injury, I think I am going to have to side with Jorge on this one. Missing races only spells defeat as far as the championship goes so he has to race if he can.

“Randy de Puniet is fairly banged up (hardly a surprise, considering his keen interest in exploring the gravel traps at high speed)” I have an immense lol fit. Well he’s done well today 2nd fastest, close times but he did have another fall apparently but it was supposedly no serious. I’d imagine it felt it though.
