Kimi to Ferrari? How about Hamilton?

Many formula One fans have made, or continue to make, the case that Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari would never happen as Fernando Alonso would never allow the McLaren driver to be part of the team after the dust-up the two had in 2007 while Alonso was at the Woking-based team with Hamilton. I tend to discount that talk, to be honest, because I think both men have matured and they seem to get along just fine. Lewis posted a picture of the two of them having fun and sitting with each other chatting. I don’t think Alonso has any real issues with Hamilton anymore and I really don’t think Lewis has any lingering issues with Alonso.

Would Lewis go to Ferrari? Maybe not but there was a strong rumor coming out of the Sky Sports F1 camp this weekend about a possible interest in seeing Kimi Raikkonen return to the Scuderia. It’s an interesting concept if you think about it. The departure of Kimi was not a pleasant one as the team had hired the Finn as their number one driver but his relaxed style, apolitical stance on life in Formula One and the way in which he can become disengaged from an issue is something they didn’t expect. What they thought they were getting was a Fernando Alonso, what they got was a very quick, nonchalant Finn.

After a couple of years off and with Alonso dominantly taking control fo the team, perhaps an apolitical, quick, nonchalant teammate might just be what the team needs. Sky Sports F1 said:

“With many of these names being talked about, we couldn’t have that certainty,” a ‘Ferrari insider’ was quoted as saying. “Kimi would be a very good solution. Fast, experienced, unpolitical and out of contract at the end of the year. Fernando would have no problem having Kimi as his teammate. In many ways it would be a dream combination for us, but there is a problem to be overcome.”

It seems Kimi isn’t too jazzed about Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo and the idea of going back there may not be that appealing to the Finn…did we say he’s apolitical? Maybe not. While Sky says that Luca isn’t keen ont he idea, the team is and they are trying to change the bosses mind. for that matter, Michael Schumacher could be a quick, non-threatening partner to Alonso as well or even Heikki Kovalainen or timo Glock. But something inside me says that I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Hamilton has or will at least talk to Ferrari. He may not go there but I don’t think Alonso is the stumbling block for him. I tend to think Hamilton hasn’t any problem teaming with the best competitors and I doubt Alonso is ‘scared’ to have the dynamic Hamilton as a partner either.

Do you think Kimi would be a good fit? How about Lewis? If not, who do you think would be a good fit for Alonso and Ferrari?
