Kubica back in rallying

Good news on the Robert Kubica front. The former Formula One driver will contest in the Europe and World rally series this year for Citroen. The recovering Polish driver is still recovering from a near-fatal accident two years ago but has been competing in rally and other forms of motor sport with the hopes of one day returning to F1. He told the press:

“I’m really pleased now to be able to return to top-level racing,” the former BMW-Sauber and Renault grand prix driver, who recently tested a Mercedes DTM touring car, said in a Citroen statement.

“I can’t wait to start racing, but I haven’t set myself any specific target. I still have a lot to learn in rallying and to improve I will need to rack up the miles on the stages.”

The FIA have allowed for a special paddle shift for Robert to accomodate his still rehabilitating right arm. The shifter will be to the left of the steering wheel. Robert will compete at the Rally Canary Islands for the European series.
