Le Mans update: Aston Martin Racing slots in drivers

With the 24 Hours of Le Mans less than a month away, I figure it is time we ramp up discussion of what Todd on this week’s podcast tipped as the greatest race of the year.

There’s a little bit of news to get the party started today. Aston Martin Racing has revealed its drivers lineups for its two LMP1 entries.

In the 007 car will be Adrian Fernandez, Stefan Mücke and Harold Primat, who piloted the same numbered entry to a fourth place last year, the first non-diesel to cross the finish line.

The 009 car will be driven by Juan Barazi, Sam Hancock and Darren Turner.

Team Principal George Howard-Chappell had this to say:

We have another strong driver line-up for this year’s race. The works team have been gelling well and has gained some valuable experience with the car this season. We also have Darren who has competed in every Le Mans with Aston Martin Racing since it was formed and will feel completely at home in the car at this circuit. Complementing our existing team, I am pleased to welcome Juan and Sam who between them bring a wealth of experience.

Now, you have to assume the LMP1 class is going to be a fight once again between the diesel-powered Audis and Peugeots, but over a day’s racing you never know where the reliability gremlin might strike. Without a doubt, the Astons in the Gulf livery are awesome to look at, and from what I’ve read, they are awesome to listen to, too.

Anyone expecting a surprise come the weekend of June 12th when the race runs? Predictions? Requests for any teams or drivers we should try to pay attention to during the next few weeks?
