I’d like to be the first to suggest a nickname for Pastor Maldonado: “Cheeky.”
I do so because the only other alternative is “Clueless,” and I’m not yet willing to be that harsh toward the guy. Why? Because he seems to be the only person who doesn’t know he’s driving for Williams next season (and that his $15 million is what will keep the storied ship afloat).
Per Autosport:
GP2 champion Pastor Maldonado is hoping to know whether he will drive for Williams next year in the near future after making his test debut for the team in Abu Dhabi today.
.
The Venezuelan completed 81 laps for the team, setting the eighth-fastest time of the day as part of an evaluation for a possible seat next season. The team has a vacancy for a funded driver alongside Rubens Barrichello after dropping Nico Hulkenberg despite his impressive debut season.
.
When asked by AUTOSPORT when he expects to know whether he will drive for Williams, Maldonado replied: “As soon as possible. We are pushing.”
Seriously, Pastor, you’re really feeling like you’re hanging out there unsure of your future? Maybe we could introduce you to Nico Hulkenberg, Karun Chandhok or either of the Toro Rosso drivers. They’ll let you know what uncertainty is.
