The team formerly known as Marussia, now Manor GP, announced today that they have signed British driver Will Stevens as for the 2015 season. The team exited administration on February 19th and is now working flat out to make the grid in Australia meaning the freight flight to Melbourne leaves on March 6th and they have a lot of work to do in order to make it.

The F1Strategy group rejected the teams desire to run their 2014 cars with 2015 regulation modifications so it is unclear on which cars they will take to Australia but signing a driver is a great first step to getting the team on the grid.

It was announced during Marussia’s administration period that Haas F1 have purchased their facilities in Banbury but the team is working out of their base in Dinnington and attempting to get two cars on teh grid for the first race. Will said:

“It’s very exciting to see everything coming together at Manor after the tremendous effort that has gone into saving the team,” said Stevens.

“It would not have been possible without the incredible support we have received from all the suppliers and from within the sport, but most of all the fantastic team of people at Manor who are working around the clock to ensure we are ready for Melbourne. My thanks to the team for their confidence in me and I can’t wait to see all the hard work rewarded when we line up on the grid in two weeks’ time.”

It’s good news for Marussia fans and fans of the team in general. It’s not easy but they have managed to find investors and move forward and with Ferrari saying they would supply them with 2014 engines, being competitive may not be their goal in 2015 but merely participating and working toward improving in 2016 could be the game plan.
