Marussia reserve driver Maria de Villota has been badly hurt in a crash at an airfield straight-line test in the south-east of England.
She was airlifted to a local hospital in Cambridgeshire after sustaining life-threatening injuries but was in a stable condition. The BBC had a local reporter at the scene and has the most comprehensive version of events here.
Marussia were running straight-line tests at Duxford airfield. Maria de Villota had apparently returned to the makeshift pits and slowed to a near-stop, then the car suddenly accelerated into a parked truck. No definitive word on why, Marussia said they would issue a statement as soon as possible.
We’ll bring you more news on this as we hear it. Our very best to Maria and her family and friends.
