As the silly season progresses, Ferrari have given their strongest hint yet that Felipe Massa will remain at the team for the 2013 season. When asked about Felipe’s improving performance, team boss Stefano Domenicali said:
“I think that for sure he understands now better the car, he understands better the tyres – and also the fact Felipe is a very, very strong driver because otherwise we would have already taken a different decision.
“So I feel that now when Felipe has under his control the understanding of the tyres and car, he performs at the level he should.”
Many thought Force India Driver Nico Hulkenberg might take the seat for the Scuderia in 2013 but it now seems the German may be heading for the vacant slot at Sauber as current driver Sergio Perez will be moving to McLaren for next year.
Felipe improved his case this weekend with a terrific drive to 4th in Korea and providing the support and performance the team expects to help Fernando Alonso in the championship fight. With Massa’s top-5 finish, the team now moves ahead of McLaren in the Constructor’s Championship for 2012. Massa told AUTOSPORT:
“When you get the OK from both directions that is when you are sure. I think it will be pretty soon to be honest.”
