Newly announced Toro Rosso driver Max Verstappen says he’s not the same kind of driver that his dad, Jos Verstappen, is. He reckons he’s more like…Fernando Alonso telling AUTOSPORT:
“I think I have a different style to my dad, it’s a bit more like Alonso,” Verstappen said.
“When he needs to be smooth he is smooth, if he needs to save the tyres.
“When he needs to be aggressive he is aggressive, but it is always under control.
“That’s what I like and that’s what I have proven in F3.”
Those are big shoes to put yourself in for a guy who will be 17-years-old when the 2015 season starts. Then again, if you’re going to compare yourself to a driver, Alonso is about as good as it gets.
I’ve watched Max drive at Pau and he is smooth and under control and we’ll have to wait and see how he does in a F1 car but if you were looking to emulate a driving style, Alonso would be a good place to start.
