Norbert Haug, Mercedes Competition boss, has confirmed that McLaren intend to start the season with KERS for Heikki and Lewis. This is the third team, behind Ferrari and Renault, to confirm the use of KERS at the first race of the season.
One cannot deny the benefit of additional power in a fight for the title but the reliability has been suspect over winter testing. The drivers have to acclimatize themselves to additional buttons for KERS as well as the front-wing flap control and there is a lot that could go wrong. KERS could be a dream to some and a nightmare to others.
Norbert Haug told Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport: “We definitely intend to start (the season) with KERS, with both cars.”
