MCLAREN POSSIBLY DISQUALIFIED FOR 2007 AND 2008 CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!

17

This just in, Planet-F1 is reporting that McLaren may have been expelled from the 2007 and 2008 Formula One Championships! They were found guilty of using the Ferrari technical data in this years championship run.

The suggestion is that the drivers can still compete for the drivers title but perhaps the constructor’s title is at play.

The council has suggested that McLaren be expelled but the nature of the actual punishment is still being discussed.

More info as it develops

F1 used to be fun to support in the past, there was more racing urge and much less bickering over the money circus that has emerged over the past few years. Its now a bit like the money lenders in the temple, with the gods at FIA making rules that try to slow cars down and favour Shumacker type tactics, now seemingly adpoted by team Ferrari – rather that let the best designers, teams and drivers go hell for leather to gain that all importent winning edge, And we, the car buying benefited by the earlier F1 development … like… Read more »

I love Dennis’ question to Norbert Haug about whether Mercedes will pay half!

The Ferrari mobsters won, surprise surprise… The FIA issued a verdict which borders on insanity. What a sad day for F1.

Well, it will be interesting to see what email traffic there was and just what was included in them. I am not sure what info a driver could gain that would make the McLaren drastically more reliable over last years car or how a driver could effect the aero package to allow for sucha drastic jump in performance versus the Ferrari’s. An engineer? Yes. A driver? I’m still a little suspect at this time.

It’s nothing but dirty politics. Where’s the evidence? None has been shown yet… The FIA should move their seat to some Banana Republic and stop pretending to be a governing body of a civilized country..

The FIA didn’t go far enough. j/k They should distribute McClaren’s points to BMW or pro rata to the rest of the field. Except to STR.

Whew!! I must say that I am glad and relieved with this verdict and it was what I was hoping for. Bottom line, FIA knows that McClaren will appeal and knock down the $100 million down to a number that they will have to accept. And I think the Constructors loss will have to stick. They do not want to NOT have McClaren in the World Championship for the remainder of the year. First off forget about the information, Ron Dennis Lied to the FIA that no one saw the information coming from Ferrari inside McClaren when Coughlan said that… Read more »

You know it’s big when it makes it to a US news site front page. I expect it from savvy UK folks but America? That’ good…or is it? After Indy this may be the other eye that’s black in the minds of casual race fans in America but Bernie doesn’t need them. ;) Just joking Bernie.

Keep in mind that Fox own’s SpeedTV so it is not like they don’t have the reports to feed it up the line as big news.

Have you ever thought that this penalty is bigger than $100 million to McClaren because they will also be losing big dollars on the constructors points fund for travel and related expenditures. No points no millions for travel!

The money Macca gets from FOM for TV rights will account for half this amount but the championship money is rumored to be around $50M. Either way, it is big money.

Peter Windsor summed the amount up as about two years worth of income. I don’t know if any team can over come that, even McLaren.

It’s funny I ponder the question of the Fine last night as I know their will be appeals and offsets from existing funds that a top team gets from FOM and FOC. The biggest question I ask is the “Fairness” in the fine, I mean if a lower team (Spyker, Super Aguri or even Toro Rosso) that type of fine may have effectively put them out of business. So you definitely have to say that the FIA handed out a “Big Team Fine” which I wonder, shouldn’t fines be based upon some sort of standard. Even the NFL has a… Read more »

Agreed. But football has more history with fines then F1 does… Although I don’t think Bill Belichick will be picking up that new handycam after all. Stupid Pats.
