Mercedes, Ferrari lead final test in Barcelona

Nico Rosberg took a note from his teammate Lewis Hamilton in setting the day’s fastest time at 1m20.130s to give Mercedes high hopes for the 2013 Formula One season. No one can be absolutely sure of how a team will do given testing performance and that caveat is as dog-eared as F1B complaining about DRS but the teams know who is quick and who isn’t.

We are just 13 days from the beginning of the 2013 Formula 1 season and Mercedes has made a good showing of it in testing at both sessions in Barcelona. Nico Rosberg traded fast laps with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso in the morning session and the times remained static as teams shifted to long-run, hard compound setups in the afternoon.

Ferrari look on song, McLaren seem to be struggling with consistency, Lotus seem to be getting heat in the tires quicker but could lack pace over a race distance and Mercedes seem to be quick and consistent but perhaps not on par with Red Bull who still look daunting.
