Mercedes announced that it will be laying off 10% or 50 people from their engine division. The division makes the engines that support McLaren, Force India and Brawn GP but due to Max’s engine longevity program, the layoffs are a consequence of the regulations that Max feels saves money. There have always been cause and effect relationships with decisions made by the FIA and the overwhelming majority of them seem to cost jobs or more money in F1. Speaking of the sport’s current rules limiting engine life and development Mercedes motor sport spokesman Wolfgang Schattling said:
“It is an unfortunate consequence,” he said. “Nonetheless, we will continue to manufacture high class engines such as those with which we are leading the championship.”
