Newey is off to build boats

Comments regarding Adrian Newey’s penchant to go sailing, figuratively speaking, have long been printed but it looks official now as the legendary Formula 1 designer will head to the waters with one of the world’s most decorated sailors to challenge for america’s Cup.

Newey has long spoken of his desire to design a boat for competition and now his role at Red Bull Advanced Technology will be the vehicle in which to do so. The Ben Ainslie Racing team have agreed to work with Red Bull to take a serious stab and claiming the Cup and Newey will get his chance to make a boat.

Now…how much time will he have to create Daniel Ricciardo’s 2015 car?

Official Announcement

Ben Ainslie Racing (BAR) is pleased to announce it will be working with Red Bull Advanced Technologies (RBAT), a division of the Red Bull Formula One group, as it progresses with its campaign to claim the 35th America’s Cup.

Operating as a Design House, RBAT is based in Milton Keynes, UK. RBAT will apply its simulation and modelling skills to assist Ben Ainslie Racing in various areas of their campaign, as BAR aims to bring the America’s Cup home to Britain.

Ben Ainslie commented: “BAR are really excited to be partnering with Red Bull Advanced Technologies. We are in a unique position in this country, and this campaign is about assimilating the very best of British in design and engineering – RBAT epitomises this.”
