Caterham F1 have been going through changes of late and while I’ve enjoyed following the Tweets and missives of Mike Gascoyne, I’m challenged as to his actual role these days at the Caterham car company. Suffice to say, if I heard lost at seas, Mike’s life safety training and pictures on Twitter make him my first candidate to be with during a sinking ship episode. The team also announced earlier this year that Tony Fernandes has turned the reigns over to Cyril Abiteboul as team manager.
Now the team have announced that Sporting Director Steve Nielsen has departed as well.
“Caterham F1 Team has today confirmed that Steve Nielsen is leaving his post of Sporting Director in January,” the team said.
“The team is currently assessing the best options for his replacement and will make an announcement in due course.”
Inevitably, teams go through changes in Formula One and Williams F1 is no different in that it had to shake up the top steps of management to get the organization moving in the right direction…that seemed to pay off in 2012. Can Caterham F1 make a similar adjustment?
Nielsen had been with the team since 2011 and it will be interesting to see what the new folks can make of a team who, in my opinion, under-performed in 2012.
