In what proves to be a real guess on anyone’s part as to who will take the lead in this weekends race; Norbert Haug has suggested that Toro Rosso could upset the apple cart. Speaking of the FIA equivalency regulations placed on the V10 engines that still find a home in the Toro Rosso cars; he believes the restrictions have not gone far enough.
The fear that the V10 could outshine the new V8’s employed by most of the teams, is a real consideration. This winters testing showed Massa faster in the de-tuned V10 than MS in the new V8. Haug suggests that the Toro Rosso team has up to 10% more HP than current rivals and while he is not shouting about it; he suggests more could be done to level the playing field.
This is all amidst McLaren’s V8 issues during testing. Should the Toro Rosso team wind up on the podium; is there any chance the other teams will show up in two weeks with last years de-tuned V10?
Red Bull has a V8 program with Ferrari but in an effort to make F1 affordable, the V10 is allowed.
