According to Auto Bild Motorsport, Pirelli will start their first F1 tire tests in August at the Mugello circuit. Bild suggests that they will use a Toyota TF109 or at least they were attempting to secure the use of a TF109.
More details are expected in coming days but Nick Heidfeld has been tipped to be the official tester for the new tire. Bild also mentions the development of four compounds and speculates that Pirelli will not sink massive cash in tire development to make a tire a few tenths quicker. There is no tire war and it is presumed that F1 will stay with the alternate compound rule while Pirelli seems willing to oblige on compound development.
All this could be lost in translation but then we all can’t be Mark Hallam can we?
