It’s interesting that the folks that got into F1 by using customer cars are the ones that have come out so strongly against it…. Sounds like do what I say not what I do…… Bring on the customer cars, what are the constructor so afraid of…. I know what Williams is afraid of, they’re gonna slip farther down the grid ’cause of their bad decisions So this rule is to protect Frank Williams! I’m sorry since when has Williams become a privater team? They’re no more a privater team then McLaren, or any of the other non auto manufacturer teams.… Read more »

customer cars: Good point on Williams. From that perspective you are exactly right and Williams has no space at all to complain, er, I mean voice their opinion loudly. Mosley: He just wants to keep talking about McLaren so he keeps talking about JYS because it provides him said outlet. I would argue that this is because Max is jammed pretty far up a certain teams backside but then I would be accused of being biased against said team and no one really wants that now do they. Regardless, he should just let the dead dog lie. Both of them.… Read more »

Williams builds their own chassis. I appreciate your point but having a McLaren delivered to your door and building your own chassis is a different issue,.

My point was that the folks complaining the loudest against the customer cars are the teams that got into F1 by buying/using customer cars. There will be folks lined up to buy cars from the various manufacturers so they’ll actually be making more money…. Well except for Red Bull/STR, Honda, Williams(mainly ’cause they car isn’t any good!). I’m still trying to figure out whether Ferrari would sell customer cars… It’d be interesting if they did. Also they don’t have to sell the current model year car they can always sell last years ride to another team. Hey look at Super… Read more »

alonso won’t take anyone out. he doesn’t want to be known for taking out hamilton in such a possibly historic race. but…i do think he’ll win the race :)

Are you kidding OTP? You can’t be a serious F1 champion of legendary status unless you’ve taken out at least one rival during a last race title show down. It’s patently obvious it’s a sign of greatness. Helps to be a stuck up arse with an ego the size of Jupiter too. Which is why Alonso and Hamilton have been competing so vigorously in that area this season. If you do all this right like Schumacher you become ravenously hated by just as many as who love you added to your list of qualities. That is controversy and that is… Read more »

LOL. I sense a bit of anti-Schumacher in those words Mr. Paul. ;) although I do admit the popcorn-factor is good.

hahaha. ok ok. i see what you mean. a nice round of gentlemanly jousting in F1 cars. a subtle touch to the rear tire hidden in the heat of battle for turn one. oh what’s this? alonso has engaged the tractor beam. lewis is being pulled into the gravel. wait, lewis has deployed the hidden lasers. alonso swerves…he’s mad now. too close for missles…switching to guns…lewis is out! the spanish armada of one crosses the finish line! now spin the team out of this one Bish!

Actually I was/am a big Schumacher fan. I like the controversy in F1 as much as the actual racing is what I’m trying to get at. Lets face it the racing is often more cerebral than real physical conflict. Competition takes place in timesheets and points tallies and passes take place in the pit. I remember you were talking a good while back about Rossi lamenting the growing similarity between F1 and motogp. What he was talking about was simple. Competition and lessening of man over machine. The difference a driver can make on race day to a bad car… Read more »

Great point Paul. I agree. Many of the rules changes were, in my opinion, to hamper Ferrari and Schumi. To reduce the dominance and mix the series up a bit. Now we have a complete crap shoot out there and I would like to see less rules as it was before. I enjoy quali but I would love to see the old style again as well. That was terrific fun for 50 years.
