Race 2 qualifying scrapped in Houston, field set by entrant points

Due to standing water and visibility issues caused by rain, qualifying for Race 2 of the Houston Grand Prix has been cancelled and the field will be set by entrant points.

“At a road course we wouldn’t have had this issue, but street courses puddle a lot,” said Dixon. “We probably would have crashed a few cars in Q1 and cancelled Q2.”

It was initially announced that Scott Dixon will start on pole, but will not get the bonus point for winning the pole. Dixon’s car is higher in points than Helio Castroneves, because Castroneves suffered a 15 points penalty for a rules infraction after his lone win of the season at Texas Motor Speedway.

Update: The lineup will be determined by entrant points going into the weekend, so Castroneves will start on pole

Castroneves benefits from qualifying being washed out, as he struggled in qualifying and the race yesterday.

Cancelled qualifying hurts drivers that had great qualifying runs for yesterdays race, which paid dividends during the race like Luca Filippi, Simona de Silvestro and Takuma Sato.
