Ricciardo tops FP2 in Monaco

While Ferrari seemed to struggle with the rear end of their car on the Ultra-Soft tires and Sebastian Vettel cozied up to a couple of Armco barriers at Mirabeau and Ste Devote.

This is the first race that features the Ultra-soft tire and Ricciardo set a blistering pace followed by Lewis Hamilton who seemed to be on top of his game in both practice session today.

Perhaps it is worth noting that the self-professed 3rd best chassis on the grid didn’t manage better than 10th place for McLaren.

He’s obviously fired up, must be feeling bitter about the way the team robbed him of a win in Barcelona in favour of tempestuous teen Max Points.

Ricciardo set his time on the fifth lap of a ten lap run, the two Mercedes drivers set theirs on the fourth or fifth laps, but of shorter runs. So it isn’t like he was going for a low fuel glory time.
If these tyres take several laps to bring in, then qualifying could be very busy.

Hmm, good point about the tyres. I imagine there’ll be many sub-optimal runs due to traffic.

I really doubt though that we’ve seen the true speed of the Mercedes yet. In a season where the pole times from previous years are being smashed due to car development and especially the availability of softer compounds, Merc still hasn’t put in a lap quicker than 2015. It should be different once they ditch the sandbags.

You called that right Dave, getting the tyres in their operating window (and keeping them there) proved to be very important to the outcomes of qualifying.
But not for the Honey Badger, they lad is on fire!
