Rubens Barrichello To IRL?

Ruben Barrichello

German news paper Bild has suggested that a swap is taking place at Honda.According to GMM, quoting Bild, the offer has been made to Rubens and GMM says Speed TV has claimed the deal has been accepted by Rubens.

The deal is a swap of Honda-powered Andretti Green Racing team driver Marco Andretti, grandson of 1978 F1 world Champion Mario Andretti, for Rubens Barrichello.  If Speed TV is correct, then Rubens could finish his career on the ovals and high banks of the Indy Racing League.

Rubens can still make some good money racing the IRL, particularly since the series will have a more even mix of ovals and road courses.
I’ve always wanted to see Marco make it to F1. I’m not sure Honda is the best place for him. He may not have any other options though.
He’ll have to learn to love the 8-ball.

The claim is Speed TV verified this, However I searched their entire site and didn’t see a word about any switch.

As for Rubans making “good” money in IndyCar, you’re living in a dream world my friend.

He’d be lucky to pull in 1 mil per season, that’s far from “good” compared to his F1 cash he’s pulling in.

That said, I think the whole thing is bunk, at 35 Rubans isn’t at the top of anyone’s list let alone one where he would have to learn a new discipline of oval racing.

It AIN’T happening, no way.

If true, what a shame for Rubens. A long and successful career ending in the hands of Tony George will leave a bad taste in my mouth and probably his. Marco’s a decent driver, but he wouldn’t be where he is without his last name and he certainly isn’t the best driver in HIRL.

I hope Rubens just retires, he doesn’t need HIRL. Just take your 9 wins, go home and count your money.
