Sainz out, Bearman in for Ferrari at Saudi Arabian GP

Carlos Sainz has been diagnosed with appendicitis which requires surgery and will not partake in this weekend’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

“Carlos Sainz has been diagnosed with appendicitis and will require surgery.

As from FP3 and for the rest of this weekend, he will be replaced by reserve driver Oliver Bearman. Oliver will therefore take no further part in this round of the F2 Championship.

The Ferrari family wishes Carlos a speedy recovery.”

If you watch Free Practice 1 and 2 on Thursday, you could tell he was not in good shape and appendicitis can be very dangerous if left untreated.

While not optimum for Ferrari, it is a chance for Ollie to make a statement about his F1 prospects. Much like Liam Lawson did last year, Ollie could make the most of this situation but it’s a tall order to jump into an F1 car, from F2, and be on song immediately.

Wishing Carlos a speedy recovery.
